OUR SPRING CHALLENGE
As the Board Members gather for our monthly general meeting, the major topic of conversation always turns to what more we can do to increase the enrichment, normalcy and inclusion activities of our dependent children. As former or practicing GALs, educators, social workers, nurses, attorneys and accountants with a deep concern for our disenfranchised youth, we see far beyond the immediate and emergency needs of the children we serve. Of course, dealing with the volatile dependency population will always require a percentage of our financial support. Our efforts to keep each of the five Program offices stocked with emergency gift cards and gas cards comes from that understanding.
The Board’s desire to deal with childhood trauma and the additional traumatic stress of the dependency system—sudden removal, constantly changing placements, constantly changing case workers, new judges and the entire legal process and rules—has lead us to adopt Pandora, Donna Brown’s Golden, as our first supported therapy dog for Circuit Seven. You will be seeing some ”get-to-know-Pandora” events through out the year. Flagler pets had the opportunity of meeting our girl during our December SANTA PAWS event (check out the photos by clicking on the Pandora Menu Heading.)
As summer fast approaches, it is our fervent desire to have every one of our children planning a summer filled with guided activities. Kids exploring new skills like tennis, archery, swimming. Kids involved in group activities and team play at day camps, horse camps, 4-H and scouting. The list grows as each GAL presents the unique need of their child/children. You represent social success with your interest and your guidance. Encourage the budding artist, contact the local Art League in your community and see what is available. Send an e-mail to the Foundation and expect to hear back from your Office Liaison. We will do our very best to create a relationship fostering the strengths and interests of our youth!
Your advocacy guiding these young ones into positive social interactions will provide the spring board from dependency survival skills to a sense of social value and self-esteem. Your advocacy and the inclusive activities and experiences are the building blocks to our ultimate goal: the elimination of generational dependency…one child at a time!
Your Foundation is proud to support your efforts in the best interest of the child. We look forward to your Summer Activity Requests!
